Groomers are busy this week getting ready for the Poker Run

MONDAY 1/25=Trail "B" through Robber's Roost to about Ruffa Ranch was groomed today and is like a new freeway. Yes manzanita hill is totally covered! TUESDAY 1/26 = We are sending snowmobiles to break down and clear remainder of "B" to Fanni Meadows. Groomers will run 24 hrs/day, beginning Thursday until Saturday morning to finish up and maintain the Poker Run trails: "I", "G", "D" and "B". No further posts or updates this week, unless of course, changes to the plan have to be made.

Groomed Trails "I", "G" and "D" today.

Both groomers were out today. The road from Butte Meadows to the Jonesville Snowmobile Park now completely open and graded wide. Tomorrow we will begin grooming "B" and "C". Conditions are unbelievable! Trails groomed so far are flat, wide and hard. Everywhere looks the same--trees completely covered and heavy powder. The only difference is some areas have powder five feet deep and then some areas are all the way up to over 12 feet. If you use the red arrow markers you will soon realize some are completely covered. Again it is beautiful, but take a shovel and friends!

Road to Snowmobile Park to be opened today.

Our contractor will finish the last bit of road (from green gate to the Park) today or tonight. One groomer will also open the backway from the Park to Butte Meadows today ( this is a snowmobile trail only). Look for updates here. Both Groomers will be on trails "I", "F", and "D" tomorrow.

Trails "I", "F","G", and "D" to the warming hut were groomed today

1/22/10 -Friday- Update of today's post. Beautiful powder from 5 foot at Jonesville to 12 + feet at higher elevations. {{{BE SURE TO CARRY SHOVELS AND HAVE FRIENDS WITH YOU}} As can be seen the Warming Hut has its share of powder! The trails groomed nicely today. The 10 snowmobilers in front of me, all extreme powder riders, did the job. I could not have groomed today without them!!!!!!! The road from just past Butte Meadows (green gate) to the snowmobile park has not yet been cleared and --simply put-- cannot be used by vehicles and is now too dangerous for most snowmobilers. Needless to say the groomers will not be out tomorrow. Hopefully this section of road will be completed by tomorrow (Sat) night and/or the back trail from Butte Meadows to the Park will be opened tomorrow. Anyway we expect, one way or another, to be able to get to our engines at the snowmobile park Sunday morning and be grooming again. Humboldt road from HWY 32 through Butte Meadows and on to the green gate was in great shape and plowed down to the pavement --thank you Butte County Road Department!!!! Our friends on HWY 89 and HWY 36, look for the groomers Monday or Tuesday.

Is there such a thing as too much snow?

Two groomers were out today. From HWY 32 to Butte Meadows is like a freeway thanks to Butte County Road Crew. From Butte Meadows to the Snowmobile Park------put simply----is absolutely not passable without a snowmobile and a great deal of skill. Power lines, trees, and very deep powder..... I did make it to the Grooming Shed today ---Got my snowmobile stuck twice and the other groomer 3 times! Hopefully this section of the road will be completed by tomorrow afternoon. At the Snowmobile Park there is 5 feet of fresh powder. We started grooming Trial "I" and got 3 miles from the park and was brought to a complete stop at full throttle by extremely heavy powder. We will try again tomorrow, but this time with 8 snowmobiles in front of us to pound the powder down. Hopefully we can make it to the warming hut. Heavy snows as we left Butte Meadows this evening and the Warming Hut is 6500 feet not the 5300 foot level that stopped us today????????

Grooming on Hold! Again....

Recent Storms had no snow for us. I got to 6000 feet--6.64 miles from the Snowmobile Park (Snag Lake turnoff) and finally found 1 inch of new snow. Also found water pockets on trail with water pooling to up to two feet deep in several spots. So 6.64 miles of trail with only gravel, asphalt, or an inch or so of ice for the most part. Returned to barn! Next series of storms begin Sunday---we are looking for snow at the 5000 foot level.
